The pen is mightier than the sword.
But the pencil is mightier than the pen. (Cause you can write AND erase stuff with it.)
baggy pants.
Never has an article of clothing introduced more laughter into my life.
Once, I saw a young male walking down the street.
Every 5 steps or so, He'd stop to pull up his pants.
Right after he did so, they promptly settled back into their original position.
Things like this cause me to wonder why the heck you'd ever buy pants that are way too big for you and not at least wear a belt.
But then, I see a guy, with large trousers, and a belt.
But lo! and behold! The belt is just a tool, used to keep his pants right below his derriere.
A-mazing.
Things that are easy to lose: guitar picks and ipods.
Some songs make me happy.
Some songs make me really happy.
"Kick Drum Heart" by The Avett Brothers.
Have a listen here: http://grooveshark.com/#/s/Kick+Drum+Heart/2zrjED?src=5
I like it.
The drums are great. (duh.)
And, I think the piano is awesome.
But Personally, I think the best part of this song is the vocals. They killed it on this one.
But that's just my opinion. what's yours?
Words that are fun to say, but not technically real words: Ridonculous. and Hilarimous.
" I miss you" by Blink 182. http://grooveshark.com/#/s/I+Miss+You/1GJKqv?src=5
I love this song.
The slightly, no, just plain creepy verses ,
The drum intro,
the steady bass/guitar line,
the strings,
the subtle use of a xylophone,
the really pretty piano interlude,
It just works.
This song evokes sadness, pain, and general melancholy feelings.
But you can't help but smile when you hear the line:
" And as I stared I counted,
webs from all the spiders,
catching things and
Eating their insides."
yup. that just about sums it up.

Giants. Hilarious. Bronies. Really?. Mmhmm. Insomnia.
"I am a paleontologist."
No, not me.
That's a line from the song, "I am a Paleontologist" by They Might be Giants.
It's really catchy, and I can't seem to get it out of my head. at all.
enjoy.
http://grooveshark.com/#/s/I+Am+A+Paleontologist/39JytG?src=5
Fact: Puppet Shows are always hilarious. Even when they're not.
So.
There's a show.
about ponies.
my little ponies.
It's called "Friendship is magic".
It's meant to be for little girls.
There's a group of people who watch this show who are not in the show's original demographic.
They're mostly teenage and older males.
They call themselves 'bronies'.
wow.
Clearly, I had to check this out for myself.
Here's what I found:

yeah.
Mildly entertaining, but is it something older dudes should be watching?
Isn't that slightly...Creepy?
should there be blogs and forums solely devoted to 'Friendship is Magic'?
and.....the biggest question of all....
IS FRIENDSHIP REALLY MAGIC??????
I guess you'll have to decide.
Fact: Music is always better if you dance to it while doing chores. Esp. if you're doing chores in the kitchen.
Getting into: (Wait for it..)
RELIENT K!!!!!
yeah. they're back
Album: Mmhmm
What you need:
Be my escape - (duh) this song is what you need for a complete and balanced breakfast.
High of 75 - I've always loved weather metaphors.
Which to Bury - 'You know I've always loved you, but right I just don't like you'. oh, and the banjo was surprising. (In a really good way.)
This week the trend - 'But after this day it's this week all over again'.
When I go down - so true.
What's also really, really, good:
I so hate consequences - there's some clever lyrics, and who doesn't hate consequences?
Let it all out - Very Ben Folds-ish. it works.
For Fun: (and lots of it)
The only thing worse than beating a dead horse is betting on one - whoa. they went a little 'Panic at the Disco!' with the title, but it's a good song.
Maintain consciousness - It's like "you belong with me" by Taylor swift. But it's reversed. and from the guy's perspective. and he already got the girl. and it's more rockish. and.....that's all for now.
Life after death and taxes - Relient K with a touch of screamo. just a touch. don't be scared, lovers of clean vocals. It's not hardcore.
Hear the Music Here: http://grooveshark.com/#/playlist/Mmhmm/58765417
Did I just use every song on the album?
Oh yes I did.
It's just that good.
Insomnia.
I don't think I have it. But if I do, It's just a light case.
But some nights, I can't sleep. at all.
Until I write. I usually write my best stuff when I can't sleep.
Not always. But mostly.
What about you?
What do you do when you can't sleep?
I want to know.

T. Swizzle. Obscurish. Mistake. Reckless.
I have a confession.
This somewhat hidden fact about myself will probably get me kicked out of all my obscure, underground, and 'you've probably never heard of them before' indie hipster circles.
Ces't la vie.
I, ocasionally, if I'm in the right mood, enjoy listening to Taylor Swift.
Shocking, isn't it?
I've always liked her.
Even though her songs are slightly overplayed. (Cause she's super popular and is a talented person)
I like Taylor Swift.
That felt good.
Depressing Places: Walmart.
And now for another round of:
"Maeve gives you more Relient K than you've ever wanted."
Just Kidding!!
This week, I'm gonna introduce you to an obscurish britsh electronic/pop singer and musician.
Getting into: Ellie Goulding.
I haven't known about this artist for long, but I really appreciate her unique voice and songwriting style.
Here's a bit to get you started.
Guns and Horses - I really love how Ellie uses acoustic guitar with electronic elements, and this song is a good example of that. Plus, the lyrics are interesting.
Lights - I like it. 'nuff said.
Your Biggest Mistake- One of my favorites. Lyrically, It's gorgeously sad, But it's also something you can dance to. I like that.
Here's the music:

Things that are quite weird if you think about them for too long : Hot Dogs.
I don't normally head towards 80's pop rock, but I really like tears for fears.
"Everybody wants to rule the world" is one of my faves.
The guitar is really great, and the lyrics are what I'd refer to as 'Reckless yet Responsible'.
That's probably part of why I enjoy it. Also, the singer's voice is oddly appealing.

Shiny. But empty. Relient K. (yes, there's more). Belts. Company.
I didn't spellcheck the first time I posted this. Clearly I should've, But here's the edited version.
enjoy.
I recently passed through the town ofLas Vegas . Which isn't particularly abnormal, considering I've driven there many times. (en route to Cali .)
This time was special, actually, unique would be a better word.
Las Vegas , on the outside, is beautiful at times. There's some amazing attention to detail in the architecture of the hotels and casinos.
But I digress.
This was special because it was the first time I've ever stopped to see something in Vegas.
My brother had an intense desire to visit the coca cola store and M&M world. So, we decided to take a little detour and indulge His dream. Unfortunately, my favorite little brothers' dream received a rude and disappointing awakening to shiny consumerism. Shiny, but still consumerism.
My brother had hoped for Free Samples at the coke store. No free samples, but you could pay 7 bucks to taste a few. The store was stuffed with all kinds of things you could buy with the coke label on them. For much more money than they're worth, of course. But worse than this were all the tourists who totally ate it up. I watched as they were willingly robbed so they could advertise for the coca-cola company.
The M&M store was about the same thing. Shiny and exciting on the outside, and a grim charade of happiness inside.
But that sums upLas Vegas doesn't it?
It promises riches, but most come home poor.
It promises fun and excitement, but eventually you end with reality and consequences.
It promises fufillment, but all you're left with in the end is an empty feeling.
I'm glad God doesn't work that way.
He gives the riches of his mercy and grace. And it's not something we'll ever run out of.
He gives everlasting joy to help us through reality.
He takes away the empty feeling and fills us with His love.
Things that bring a smile to my face:
Goldfish Crackers and Little kids.
Getting into: Relient K
Album: The anatomy of tongue in Cheek
What you need:
Pressing On -it's encouraging and fun to sing along with in the car.
Sadie Hawkins Dance - oh oh oh ;)
My way or the highway to hell - serious reminder. But there's also some funny humor in it. (i.e. "add a cello here, to make a sad impression".)
Less is more - This. is . way. pretty.
What you need, but less so:
Maybe it's maybelline - don't blame other people for your own actions. plus, it has a clever hook involving a line from makeup advertising.
Those words are not enough. - it speaketh the truth, comrade.
May the horse be with you - My theme song for a substantal amount of my life.
Fun little extra stuff:
Kick- Off - this makes me smile. every time.
Breakdown - life's little frustrations.
Lion Wilson and I'm Lion - O. They go together. If you're confused, it's a reference to an older cartoon called, "Thundercats." Look it up sometime. I dare ya. ;)
Here's everything:
(and more)
http://grooveshark.com/#/album/The+Anatomy+Of+The+Tongue+In+Cheek/1203352
Things that don't bring a smile to my face:
Boys who need a belt and People who don't put away shopping carts.
I like British accents. But I like British singing voices even better.
I just really, really, like their general tone.
One of my favorite British voices is that of Kate Nash’s'.
One of my favorite songs of hers is called, "Paris ".
Have a listen here: http://grooveshark.com/#/s/Paris/2JRpCe?src=5
I love the combination of electric guitar, strings, and keys.
The music has a soaring feel. Not a, 'on the edge of something about jump'. No, it's a ' I just jumped and I'm currently in freefall'.
The quite piano part is the, ' I'm slowing down and almost ready to land' part, and then it builds up to, 'Psych! that was just a nice peaceful interlude'.
Anyway, the music is great, but I love the lyrics, too.
They’re happy, but somewhat sad in parts. It’s a nice ‘sweet and sour’ kind of combination.
My favorite line is:
“You said you’d lend me
anything.
I think I’ll have your
company.”
Yup . That about sums it up.
