ice. complex. russian. faceless. reflection

things I don't understand: ice fishing.

rant:
People who are feeling guilty who guilt trip others so they will feel less guilty.
Sorry, that's a confusing statement.
Let me explain what I mean.
Here's how it works.
Person A is sitting around doing nothing.
Person B sees work that needs to be done and proceeds to do it.
Person A sees B doing work and realizes they should help. But A doesn't really want to help and has feelings of irritation towards B for 'causing' them to feel guilty for not being a productive member of society. A then makes remarks to B expressing their desire for them to stop being so helpful and start doing nothing, like them.
Person B is like, 'What the heck?' and is in turn irritated by A's weird little guilt-tripping complex.
This is stupid and should never happen, right?
I wish.
For the love of all things good and decent, don't be person A.

Things I don't understand: Chocolate Chip Ice cream. It's like someone just forgot the cookie dough part. The cookie dough part is the good part.
Chocolate chips are just there to enhance the cookie dough.
Like makeup. But makeup is no good if you don't have a face.
So chocolate chips are pretty much pointless without cookie dough.

I love Ivan and Alyosha.
For those of you are not sure what that statement really means, let me elaborate-ish.
Ivan and Alyosha is a super-legit band from Washington state.
Their name comes from the names of the two main characters of the novel "Brothers Karamazov" by Russian author Fyodor Dostoyevsky.
They're all really nice people.
And most importantly, the two times I've seen them live were some of my favorite concerts. ever.
Here's three of my favorite songs by them.
listen. enjoy. or not.

I was born to love her - 'and if the sky should fall, and the morning birds not call, you must know, how I love you so.'

Happy Thanksgiving. I hope you had a day of family, food, and most of all, reflection on all the amazing things God has done for us.

Sorry. IN LOVE. Pwoosh.

First of all, I'm sorry. Life's been slightly hectic, and I just haven't had a good time to write.
But I'm writing now, so it's all good.

During Sunday school today, we were looking at 1 Timothy 3:14-16, when another verse caught my eye.
1 Timothy 4:10a - "For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica."
Yup.
I'm sure at this point you're wondering why the heck I picked that verse.
It caught my attention because of the phrase, “in love with this present world."
IN LOVE.
And I started thinking, how in love with world am I?
How much do I value stuff? Activities? Entertainment? The world's approval?
And more importantly, how much do I value God?
How much of a pull does he have on my heart?
How IN LOVE with God am I?

Truth is, God created this amazing world, and there are some amazing things in it, but there's also a lot of…… nothing. The things that the world has to sell pale in comparison to what God gives for free.
Then why do I run to, and cling to the world?
Because I've still got a divided heart.
My sin nature and my spiritual nature are warring with each other.
And on my own, it’s a losing battle. Actually, a soul - crushing defeat.
But, by God's grace, it's not about how strong I am, it’s about how strong he is.
Psalm 86:11 says, "Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name"
God can unite my heart and help my only desire to be for HIM.
God can teach me his ways, and help me to walk in them.
God can show me that all I need is Him; all I need is his approval.
He will help me to get out of my twisted romance with the world, and He gives me his perfect, everlasting love.
Pwoosh. That kinda hit me like a tidal wave today.

I'll write about music later, but I just wanted to talk about that for this post.
