Sorry. IN LOVE. Pwoosh.

First of all, I'm sorry. Life's been slightly hectic, and I just haven't had a good time to write.
But I'm writing now, so it's all good.

During Sunday school today, we were looking at 1 Timothy 3:14-16, when another verse caught my eye.
1 Timothy 4:10a - "For Demas, in love with this present world, has deserted me and gone to Thessalonica."
Yup.
I'm sure at this point you're wondering why the heck I picked that verse.
It caught my attention because of the phrase, “in love with this present world."
IN LOVE.
And I started thinking, how in love with world am I?
How much do I value stuff? Activities? Entertainment? The world's approval?
And more importantly, how much do I value God?
How much of a pull does he have on my heart?
How IN LOVE with God am I?

Truth is, God created this amazing world, and there are some amazing things in it, but there's also a lot of…… nothing. The things that the world has to sell pale in comparison to what God gives for free.
Then why do I run to, and cling to the world?
Because I've still got a divided heart.
My sin nature and my spiritual nature are warring with each other.
And on my own, it’s a losing battle. Actually, a soul - crushing defeat.
But, by God's grace, it's not about how strong I am, it’s about how strong he is.
Psalm 86:11 says, "Teach me your way, O Lord, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name"
God can unite my heart and help my only desire to be for HIM.
God can teach me his ways, and help me to walk in them.
God can show me that all I need is Him; all I need is his approval.
He will help me to get out of my twisted romance with the world, and He gives me his perfect, everlasting love.
Pwoosh. That kinda hit me like a tidal wave today.

I'll write about music later, but I just wanted to talk about that for this post.

promptly. stage. awkwardness. pants. gush. cartwheels.

Here I am, sitting in my room, it's 11pm, I really need my sleep, and I'm writing.
Ces't la vie.
I need to write.
Sometimes, I want to write.
Sometimes, I need to.
I need to write.
I once used a relatively gross simile to explain my compulsion to write to a friend.
Here's what I told her.
"For me, writing is like throwing up.
I don't always have to. But when I do, I can't wait, or I'll at least feel very uncomfortable until I do.
Once I start writing, I can't really stop until I'm done. And after I've finished, I feel much better, almost relieved, if you will."
But that's enough of that.
Luckily, the friend was a fellow writer and understood my comparison, rather than looking disgusted and writing me off as a nut job.....as I'm sure some of you are doing now.

Drama is a thing best kept on the stage.

Have you ever seen someone you haven't been in contact with for a long time?
Maybe on facebook, or maybe in person.
It's disorienting, isn't it?
But that really depends on the person. Maybe seeing them brings back feelings. Sadness? Joy? Anger? Just plain weirdness? All of the above and more? I find the feelings are usually accompanied by a torrent of memories that overwhelm you until you end up just sitting at the computer feeling slightly, (or completely) taken aback.
Or, you just stand there like an idiot, unable to offer anything more than bland, conversation killing phrases such as; "It's been so long.", "You look so different.", (or, "You haven't changed a bit"), and, "How are you?", ( I find myself asking the person that question several times if I'm nervous.)
Or, If they're one of those rare people, it only takes a few minutes of awkwardness, or none at all, before it's just like old times, or better.
Of course, If 'old times' were 'horrible times', then I probably would just avoid the person at all costs.

FACT: plaid looks good on everything, except for pants. that's just wrong.

"Under Cover of Darkness" by The Strokes

When talking about this song, I have a tendency to gush.
So, forgive me If I go on and on.
The vocals are raw, and work well for the song.
The bass and drums do a good job keeping it all together.
But, the guitars are just plain tastyawesomegeniusamazingnesswowwowwow.
Albert Hammond Jr. and Nick Valencia are like the 'dream team' of guitarists. The way they layer the riffs, the kind of call-and-response thing on the verses, the solos - It just plain works.
perfectly.
Listening to the guitars just makes me want to run around screaming, "HECCCCCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKK YYYYYYESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"
while doing cartwheels. and flips. and lots of other things that probably aren't even physically possible for me.
I'm sure you get the picture.
So, what does the song evoke in you?
Be honest.
I wanna know.
